Politics and fashion combine, with recent runways all about female empowerment

It’s not the first time fashion and politics have joined forces. With gender equality and women’s rights under the spotlight across the world, fashion has taken a feminist stance. That felt especially true when the spring collections hit the runways in September – and now they’re on shop floors it’s time to see what this means on Fashtory.

How is fashion feminist? This time it’s about the real woman. It’s a welcome return to femininity while putting confidence and comfort first.

Borrowing in parts from modest fashion, it’s about feminine tailoring, longer skirt lengths, and relaxed separates in flattering and fluid shapes. At Fashtory we’ve got our eye on Daryabyalia’s navy two-piece for starters. Or for the evening, check out Swan Boutique’s sculptural halter cut dress for the perfect blend of chic and comfortable.

Hollywood icon Sophia Loren once said, ‘A woman’s dress should be like a barbed-wire fence: serving its purpose without obstructing the view.’ Now it seems its purpose is female empowerment.
